giro deluxe, sept 2022 – review
26 cars in total – 13 leaving from the UK and we met with 13 more in Germany on the first night. All of us looking forward to 7 days of automotive fun in the shape of our Giro Deluxe European Road Trip. Excitement levels were high as this trip was a victim of Covid in 2020, so people had been waiting a while for this event to happen, and it didn’t disappoint
As ever the mix of cars was eclectic and exotic, more so on this trip then ever before. Modern day sports cars such as Caymans, a Mini GP3 and delicious Alpine A110S rubbed shoulders with Mclarens, 3 x ferrari F12s and a Porsche GT3RS. A couple of Astons and a Ferrari 355 added some class to proceedings, a Macan GTS added some comfort, and then our Golf R estate was joined by another from Ireland… these 2 cars held their heads high in such esteemed company.
Daytime we ripped up so many mountain roads – an early assault in the Grossglockner in Austria being a highlight for most – just an amazing way to start the day on superb roads and blasting through tunnels. Austria always delights, as did the might of the Italian Dolomites.
After some serious driving most people took full advantage of the spa facilities at our hand-picked hotels, refreshing themselves before dining – the highlight being a 6-course dinner, 5 star style, with a cheese-board to finish with that you had to see to believe – delicious.
All of a sudden we were heading through Germany, some via the Black Forest, some on the Autobahn, for the final night dinner and drinks, Bavarian style.
Fuel was burnt, food eaten, drinks consumed, frowns and smiles were expressed, new friends were made and good times were had.
Thanks to Karl Dalton for the mega Photos.
