high octane, June 2022 – review
24 cars took off for 7 days of automotive fun in the shape of our High Octane European Road Trip. France, Germany, Italy, Austria and Switzerland were all on the agenda as we worked our way through the meticulously planned route.
Austria was stunning as usual, providing much entertainment on the beautiful roads – our eclectic mix of cars all excelled in their own way… the mighty AMG thought it brought the noise, then the 458 turned up! Hot hatches (Mini GP2, Golf GTi) and estates (Golf R) mixed it with the Alpine, GT86 Turbo, Audi TT, Boxster and Caymans. Then the big guns had a go too… Aston DBS, 911 GTS & GT3 RS, R8 V10+ and the Mclaren 600LT.
In all honesty it really doesn’t matter what you’re driving, especially when you hit the delights of the Swiss Alps. Our sunset drive (minus the sun) was 3 hours of driving nirvana, and a spectacular way to finish our time in the Switzerland.
During the week we dipped our toe in to a very wet Italy for a few hours to tackle Stelvio. If you had RWD it was challenging, FWD or AWD… you were in your element.
All of a sudden we were heading through Germany, some via the Black Forest, some on the Autobahn, for the final night dinner and drinks, Bavarian style.
Fuel was burnt, food eaten, drinks consumed, frowns and smiles were expressed, new friends were made and good times were had.
