Rock & Ice, Nov 2018 – Review

Our first ‘winter rally’ was an adventure holiday in Iceland, driving 4×4 Super Jeeps on 38″ tyres – built to tackle the best that Iceland could throw at us.

We headed to Reykjavik and kicked off the trip with a group meal in the city, enabling everyone to introduce themselves. Then it was off to bed, ready for an early start the following day as we headed to the city outskirts to collect our trucks for the event.

Once papers were signed, and trucks loaded up, we headed to the Icelandic Highlands, taking the lesser know and longer route that our personal guide had planned for us.  On our journey we took in some of Iceland’s most spectacular natural wonders, and took on some of Iceland’s toughest terrain.  Once everyone had got used to the trucks it was clear that if you showed them respect they could take on just about anything.

Evenings were spent in a selection of hotels in and out of the city (sometimes in, well, the middle of nowhere, and what a superb experience that was – peace and quiet is a valuable commodity these days).

After 3 days in the trucks we dropped them off (just a bit dirtier than when we collected them) and returned to Reykjavik.  Everyone on the trip had chosen to extend their stay by an extra day, so we headed to the famous Blue Lagoon for some relaxation.

The final night was food and drinks in Reykjavik, before saying our goodbyes and heading back to the day jobs.  Until next time Iceland, it was a blast!
