We’ve taken action to offset the carbon footprint our events have made this year (2019), and in the future.
Our calculations told us 40 tonnes of CO2e needed offsetting (Carbon offsetting is used to balance out these emissions by helping to pay for emission savings through projects across the world) so that’s what we’ve done, using the services offered by Carbon Footprint
. We’ve chosen their service that plants trees in the UK, in particular the North West where we are based. The project mainly plants in school locations, helping to educate children and support wildlife habitats whilst sequestering carbon emissions. For each tCO2e offset, one tree is planted in the UK and an additional tCO2e is offset through a VCS Tree Buddying project to guarantee the emission reductions.
What is Carbon Offsetting?
Carbon offsetting helps to combat global climate change as well as caring for local communities. In many instances providing much needed employment, health improvement, biodiversity and broad social benefits to impoverished communities. Offsetting provides a mechanism to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the most cost-effective and economically-efficient manner. Offsetting plays a vital role in combating climate change, but if done in isolation it is not the solution.Carbon Footprint offer a range of carbon offset projects
to international standards, including the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS), Gold Standard Voluntary Emission Reductions (VER) and Certified Emission Reductions (CER). All of which meet the Quality Assurance Standard for Carbon Offsetting
following a footprint calculation and BSI’s PAS 2060
specification on carbon neutrality. Many of their carbon offsetting projects also provide wider benefits in addition to carbon reduction, such as biodiversity, education, jobs, food security and heath & well-being in developing countries.
